Thankyou very much that was puzzling me greatly... thought it might have have been some reference to Miss Mackay being a pudding.
love Maggie for this, definitely her best film

If I could only take one scene to a Desert Island,it would be this!
"Mr Lowther is teaching me to play the mandolin!".

It took 35 years for this film to become available on DVD. If but one scene could be cited as justification for that, it's this one. "Well worth the wait" is an under-statement. Decades of pressure from fans finally prevailed, and we are the better for it. The film has a new and growing generation of admirers as do the actors. Sadly, Celia Johnson and Gordon Jackson are deceased, but Dame Maggie is still going strong.

I understand she's typical of headmistresses in Scotland at that time.Still a few 'dinousars' exist! Her name is Celia Johnson, and yes, she's excellent.

The actress who played Miss Mackay was pretty damn good, too.

The creme de la creme of the entire film! Incredible acting from both ladies. |
