Even though I like the album version of it better as it sounds more muscular I like contrast of the male and female vocal styles in this extended 12'' version of it at some point as well.

Yeah I like contrast of the male and female vocal styles.

Ooh! You've nailed it now! It is! That is my favorite line as well! Yes, Mal sounding so aggravated in it is just...I don't know. No word can describe it at all. Ah, good ol' KROQ station! I love it! Listening to it over the Net when I just can't the normal way. "That's The Way It Works" song can be found on a rarities compilation "Listen Up With Cabaret Voltaire" released in 1990. So, check it there. You can't find it over here as no one's uploaded it yet. Mal's a lyrical genius I tell ya!:-)

Yeah the entire song is genius, in my opinion. My favorite line is "Will something please click into place and make something of all this waste?" I like how he sounds so aggravated. :) I'm not familiar with most of their other songs (always caught this song on KROQ in Los Angeles back in the day), so haven't heard the 2nd one you've quoted. But through Youtube I've discovered the rest of their excellent songs. Have to find that one.

Yup. So do I. I like these ones as much: " (...)Who cares what it goes Who cares what you know Who cares what you do without Who cares what soul (...)" (I hope I've heard the last line well.) They filmed the video in the Mojave desert near Las Vegas. So Reagan reference could be alright. But could be wrong, of course. Off topic, but I like these lyrics: "(...)Hey Mister Privledge, what is there that you see? Is it alright? (...)" from "That's The Way It Works" song as much as well. :-)

Definitely the truth. I love the lyrics in this. Coupled with altered sampled voice (speaking about propaganda, etc), I think the sung lyrics take on an ironic meaning. At least in my head. "It's not right leave everyone wondering how. If you're gonna drop it, then drop it now." I think they were speaking to R. Reagan. :)

Here's a line from the song and it's as priceless as their other ones: "...It's not safe to go out It's not right to stay home My advice to you, is to carry a gun..." So much truth in that, innit? ;-)

Sorry to misunderstand you. ...They weren't "mainstream" anywhere in the world including UK as well which is fine by me too. If they were a "mainstream" band there certainly would be a big pressure on them like from their record company like from the press too and that would've killed all the magic about them. The best things in music are happening deeply down the track covered by mystery.
RainPoetry (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
Very true, what you said. And when I said obscure, I didn't mean the lyrics themselves, rather Cabaret Voltaire themselves. And obscure's probably the wrong word. More like "less known" :) which is fine by me. I like they weren't "mainstream" here in the States (don't know about the UK).
