dude rugby is tight too... i dont get this whole battle... im american i played hs footabll, im into it and i like rugby too... yes rugby has no pads so you feel the hits more, but in american football on you hits you lead with you head, no one in rugby does that

And you do not get hits like that in rugby that make the neck crackback like that.
You couldnt run into someone that fast without pads.
I like rugby, Im fan. I play it often. I also go to Sale Sharks and Warrington when I can.
But Ive also played AF at UCLA when I went to uni there, and believe me the pads are needed. The size of the players who unbelievably dwarf rugby players and the speed of the running require them.
Both are tough sports.

AF isnt rugby with pads. Its always the first mistake that rugby fans make.
In AF the ball is passed forward, which speeds the game up. Imagine football(soccer) if you could pass the ball forward - the game would be slowed down. Same in rugby.
Also AF players are huge, and I mean really big. In rugby they cant be as big as they run for 80mins.
So couple speed and size along with very few rules about how you can hit you need the pads.
Without them in the 50's there were many many deaths.
