HAPI Drum from http://HapiTones.com Special edition custom painted and tuned to the Pygmy scale from Rwanda, in the key of E. It is one of the favorite scales of Hang Drum players. No effects used on the Hapi Drum in recording. Music and video by John Pascuzzi. The unique tone of the HAPI (hand activated percussion instrument) is created by a tuned vibrating steel tongue. The concept is similar to a wooden tongue drum. When a tongue is quickly and lightly struck with the finger or mallet it vibrates creating sound waves. We have added dampening of the notes and drum body to keep the drum from becoming discordant and "ringy". This technique is built into each drum and provides excellent resonance while supplying the correct amount of dampening. By placing low notes next to the appropriate higher notes we achieve multiple harmonics. Their vibrations create desirable overtones which compliment the timbre of the tone. Players of the Hang, Tank, Hank, and Tongue Drums will enjoy playing a HAPI. Thanks for watching!

To a degree I agree with you, but I think that the HAPI drum has a place WITH other instruments, not just solo.

look in the description to the right with the website...There is a good long wait right now - but it is REALLY worth it. Believe me. I now own the hapi he played in this video and I can't stop playing!

I personally think the drums are nicely mixed in. :) But I'm listening on mackie studio monitors instead of PC speakers. Either way this sounds great!

I absolutely LOVE the hapi drum. I have one coming this month, and I plan on purchasing more. but, when you are exhibiting the sound of one of your drums, Please don't add any other synthesizing sounds to it! I liked what you did with the Akebono scale video, and I like this drum, but I think that less (or no) synthesizing sounds would better show the sound to people.
