I like your approach--but there's no reason the ball couldn't hit a few extra blue pegs after clearing the helices. Spooky ball (or multiball) would increase the number you could hit. But it'd be very difficult to determine the maximum possible number--you'd have to write a simulation program, like the algorithm they use for Zenball, but more comprehensive.

Ok this should be much easier than actually beating 18m. Maths heads, what is the maximum possible score on this level? It would involve all but one of the oranges being outside the spiral and the one inside being the first one you hit through the hole. Any blues hit on the exterior clear-out would have to be pink pegs and you'd need the spooky ball as well as, obviously, the triple score.
