No. If you notice in the beginning there's a race start gate marked with a green flag. Also, the only thing the timer does is give bonus points if you finish in time, there's no penalty for being slow.

Resistance 2....its a FPS game and its really fun. 60 Player Online and huge 300 feet bosses.
This is equally fun tho also
