Its mainly due to the head, IM and exhaust system not flowing enough to create power at those rpms, although friction does cause a greater loss, the heads inability to flow enough for the engine to make power at those higher revs is the main issue to overcome. Throw a large longtube 4-1 header on a b16 some dual valve springs and retainers, and youve got a 190+whp machine whos power doesnt peak until atleast 9k, because the flow is adequate at those high rpms.

errr, most engines cant make power after 8k rpm because all the power is being used to overcome the friction as well as the inertia of the pistons going up and down and some other factors. Only a very well balanced engine can make power after 8k. Like F1s. spoon. Spoon in this case balanced and reduced vibrations in the engine so it could make power till 11000 rpm. very impressive

the reason they're revving it to 10K is so it doesn't drop out of the power-band as much as it would if they revved it to 9K. you are right though, a stock motor will stop making power at 7,800rpms.

Who cares how high this engine crank can spin up. No point revving up to 10k rpm if the peak power occur at 8000 rpm.

Anyone can take out a rev limiter... It's making the engine be able to make power through out the whole rpm band... Power band...
