We believe that our hair is a gift given by God, and that our strength lies within our hair. Why would God make our hair grow in order for us to cut it?
The hair in Sikhism is similar to the biblical story of Samson.
It seems more than coincidental that where our brain lies at the very top of our body our hair grows the longest...

what is the purpose of not cutting the hair?
i want a legitimate answer.
I respect your religion.

sikhism doesnt have a caste system. infact its against the caste system. theres a difference between what people are doing incorrectly and what is the actual truth. there is no such thing as a jatt sikh or saini sikh or rajput sikh etc etc. that is all mistakes made by a lot of people these days, if they were to follow the sikh erligion properly they would know that this is wrong and as it so happens the people who say they are jatt sikh etc are never amritdhari.

SmartySumit,
Without a doubt, the Sikhs *are* the nicest, friendlies, and most humblest and noblest people in the world. I'm not even a Sikh, and I believe this. I respectfully disagree with you. I agree that Nanak-ji said what you attributed to him. I am quite familiar with this quote, but there was a disconnect between what he said and what came from it (i.e. a religion which believes in dharma/reincarnation, but is against portraits and does 3 prayers a day [as opposed to 5 like isl]).

sorry zut212 but wat the girl meant by saying sikhism is different is and i quote frm sikh holy book is " na main hindu na main muslim" by guru nanak. sikhism definitely includes some of good things frm hindusim or islam bt has its own identity and clearly different frm both the religions.Punjab happens to b the place where sikhism was born bt has certainly no relevance of contact zone wid hindus or muslims watsoever, i personally respect al religions...jst wntd to clarify..cheers!!

I have many Sikh friends, and as a people, are probably the best people in the world. There are a couple of things not entirely true/accurate in this video:
1. The turbaned girl at 1:18 says that Sikhism is different from Islam and Hinduism. She's not correct. The Punjab is exactly the contact zone of Hinduism and Islam, and Sikhism is basically a syncretic faith between the two. In their holy book, they quote Hindus and Muslims.
2. There *IS* a caste system, but it's not indoctrinated. |
