I saw your point, but I didn't address it because it was obsolete to the argument.
I try to stay constructive.

And yet you're still not getting the point I made. But that's fine. I do know how to argue, thank you. Just because I don't include 500 different things in my argument doesn't mean I don't know how to argue. A five year old can argue, please.
:D

Okay, what I "ORIGINALLY" said was that...
(pay attention now)
"I'd like to hear the guitarrist STRUM acoustically," and then I gave you the dynamics example since you asked.
You can play an electric and STRUM acoustically, and vice-versa. "Duh!"
All those english lessons can't help you if don't know how to argue.
Now go ahead and complicate this, since I made this easy for you... just try to stay on the point this time.
:)

And yes, they do sound like every other band I've heard play acoustically. They use the same type of instrument--an acoustic guitar--so therefore they WILL sound alike to an extent. I never said they sound EXACTLY the same because they use the same styles. I MEANT they sound the ALIKE because they use the SAME instruments. Duh!

You didn't read what I said. You originally said he wasn't playing acoustically. No where in the original comment did you say he should have played with more dynamics, which is what you meant. I went off the acoustic comment, not the dynamics comment, saying every other band I've heard play acoustic played with acoustic guitars, which is playing acoustically, which is what you ORIGINALLY SAID. Please KNOW what you originally said and READ what I said.
And Ian didn't "do good." He did well.

Nobody said dynamics were speed.
And yes, you can slow to a whisper, but that's a concept battle that deviates from the point...
and the point is that just because they have a biased fan base doesn't mean that the guitarrst did a good job.
And it does NOT sound like "every other band you've heard acoustic." That just proves you're being biased.
Singer did good, though.

So why didn't you say you wanted to hear dynamics? Because you can play acoustically without dynamics, all you need is an acoustic guitar. Playing acoustically and playing with dynamics are two different things. Both are stylistic, but they're separate ideas. I meant it sounds the same as others because they all play with acoustic guitars, which is playing acoustically.
Dynamics also are not speed. You cannot "slow" to a whisper. You can decrescendo, however, to a whisper.

He's not strumming, he's raking... and he's doing it throughout the entire song. Every other acoustic song you've heard? Really?
How 'bout all of Incubus' acoustic sessions? The strumming is very intimate.
Foo Fighters? There's heavy strumming, but he slows it to a whisper every now and then.
Nirvana Unplugged?
How 'bout RADIOHEAD?
Jaguares, the unplugged album?
They all have a sense of DYNAMICS in their strumming, and this guy could use some of that.
selizabeth13 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
He's playing the chords of the song while keeping the melody on an acoustic guitar. How is that not acoustic? Sounds like every other band I've heard acoustic.
dmonkeyland (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
The singer's voice really isn't bad, but I'd like to hear the guitarrist strumming ACOUSTICALLY.
It's a whole 'nother world. |
