(left to right first row - Helen, Anita, June Carter, back row - Jan Howard). Wonderful singing, the Carter Sisters are highly underrated. Jan Howard is too - this is from the late 70's when her career was in decline so she did some background singing for the Johnny Cash show and Tammy Wynette's too. Four great singers, four great ladies!

Yeah, I think Nivana did the best version of this. Ledbelly was damn good though...

Who's singing after Helen? I tremble inside at the sight of Anita Carter and at the sound of her voice. Wow, what talent ... (and looks)

A world away from Leadbelly's brooding emptiness. Wonderful though.

I know how you feel, I think.
And I'm their cousin.
Grew up and never really knew what I was missing, Elvis, et al, were the thing!
Lord please give us another chance to appreciate your gifts.

Superbe !
In the pines est une composition de Leabelly je crois , trés bien interpretée ici par la descendance de la fameuse Carter Family !

it's a pity that Janette Carter hasn't joined the group after Maybelle's death. Jan Howard is a great addition, but Janette has a lot of both Sara and A.P. in her voice |
