Regular old-fashioned icons will be implemented with plasma. Plasma it's just the framework that will allow you to set up a desktop as a desktop looked like 10 years ago, or whatever you come with that nobody has thought yet.

Yes, but what if we don't want plasmoids, and would rather have regular old-fashioned icons?

If you don't want your screen cluttered, don't fill your screen with widget. Except that, don't forget that you can put your widgets on the plasma "kicker"

And?

KDE4 will be "based" on these widgets. The whole desktop will be a widget!

I dont see how those widgets, gadgets, applets, whatever... can be usefull. Not only for KDE4, but also the Vista and OS X ones.
Maybe Im too much oldschool, but the only purpose of it is making the screen looking clutered.

absolutely love what you guys are doing with KDE4... i used to use KDE, switched to GNOME when i switched to Ubuntu... but you can be sure i'll be back on KDE once Kubuntu moves on to KDE4... i just hope its soon.
Keep up the brilliant work with KDE4 and these screencasts... doing a good job of whetting me apetite! |
