Of course, if you like the Quran, then believe and advocate what you want (almost), under the principle of freedom of expression. But those who don't, should take note that the Quran is no friend of freedom of belief or expression. Quite the contrary...

Whilst women and men might have similar rights to "kindness", men occupy a higher status, at least in divorce and reconciliation proceedings:
2:228 Women who are divorced shall wait, keeping themselves apart, three (monthly) courses. ... And their husbands would do better to take them back in that case if they desire a reconciliation. And they (women) have rights similar to those (of men) over them in kindness, and men are a degree above them. Allah is Mighty, Wise.

There is a lack of due consideration to a women's testimony, and a presumption that a women is more likely to be unreliable, at least in financial disputes:
2:282 O ye who believe! When ye contract a debt for a fixed term, record it in writing .... And call two witness from among your men, two witnesses. And if two men be not at hand, then a man and two women, of such as ye approve as witnesses, so that if one erreth (though forgetfulness) the other will remember.

There is a presumption against the sexual self-determination of women. And the default penalty for such an offence is death:
"4:15 As for those of your women who are guilty of lewdness, call to witness four of you against them. And if they testify (to the truth of the allegation) then confine them to the houses until death take them or (until) Allah appoint for them a way (through new legislation)."

By default, women may inherit only half of what a man inherits.
"4:11 Allah chargeth you concerning (the provision for) your children: to the male the equivalent of the portion of two females, and if there be women more than two, then theirs is two-thirds of the inheritance, and if there be one (only) then the half...."

What does the Quran say? Yet another book claiming to be from this or that divinity. But, since it is the word of Allah (or rather the opinions of a human called Mohammed) there can't be a better authority for what a person claiming to be a Muslim must believe. So, a few choice quotations...

This ironical and shocking video disects one of the sickest psychosexual systems ever invented by the human mind. It stalks the earth under the purported immunity of a "great religious truth", and is all the more dangerous. There are, of course, no religious truths, only ethical and political claims, disguised as absolute truth from this or that invented god. Freud asked us in 1927 what would be "The Future of an Illusion"? Since 2001, this has become, once more, a dealy political problem.

I think the media is clouding your head buddy. Muslims do not want to talk over the world and you can't blame them for not taking any criticism after their religion has been attacked non-stop after 9/11. Not to mention many arugments against them are quite ignorant and baseless. I got great love and respect for good Christians...they did give muslims a home when the religion first came to be. |
