Its happened before... Carl contemplates that the "submission to ethnic, religious or national identifications" and the rejection of scientific values will leave us tenuously on the brink of a 2nd (and possibly final) dark age. http://www.carlsagan.com/ User Spiff embedded this clip on Videosift with the following description: - In this excerpt from the final episode of Sagan's 'Cosmos,' he discusses why the momentous discoveries of the ancient world were unable to prevent the dark ages from virtually banishing scientific thought for a millennium, and how the ancient world's greatest repository of knowledge, the great library of Alexandria, met its regrettable end. A sobering statement on what ignorance, apathy and fanaticism can do if left unchallenged. .

"Maybe you should read up on your shit, little man, before you start making comments" - Pirate Waaaay past your bedtime junior, adults speaking here. This discussion is not about whether civilization been around for 5 or 10 thousand years, jacka$%!

"But its more correct to say that HUMANS have been more destructive" - Mary Right. We can`t change our nature, ergo, Science must go.
PiratePontiusPilate (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
Actually, we've been around for roughly 100 thousand years. Civilization has been around for around 10,000 years. Heavy industry has been rolling for about 200 years. And the information age has been going for just around 50 years or so. Maybe you should read up on your shit, little man, before you start making comments. You're only making yourself look like a dumbass.

okay? Your trying to say that since the days that science have come into effect the world has been destructive. But its more correct to say that HUMANS have been more destructive. Since science came into the world, humans had more possibilties to bring destruction. Your blaming science, an intangible method. Intangible methods dont not cause harm now do they? Intagangible methods which are used to carry out physical manifestation is harmfal, no? And who are the manifestors? Humans.

"We manage to use the earth to create death" - Mary Uh, yeah. There`s a difference between weilding a sword and pulling a trigger, wouldn`t you say ? Science has destroyed the Earth in less than 200 years. We`ve been around for , what ? 5000 ? Fu&% this and Sagan the Pagan`s horse sh%$

I'm a atheist; I don't in practice worship any god although I find the Buddhist belief system of suffering and desire to be quite true, so that's what I believe as far as a philosophy. So I guess I'm a buddhathiest.

@RideMYBMW its the people who may USE science to bring destruction. A pencil is a pencil but in the eyes of a human and can be used to stab someones eyes out.We manage to use the earth to create death. Nuclear warheads. Anthrax. Bullets and guns. it's are ideas of destruction that create weapons, not the materials themselves. Humans are the ones who participate in war, not religon and not science. Humans, people!
MarylandJuly89 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
Please dont say science has destoyed more life. Religon has not destoryed life. Money has not destroyed life. The only thing that destroys life is humans. Humans are the only culprits, but we'll hide behind anything to make us seem innocent. Truth be told, imagine if mankind was not around any more, maybe no progression, but i guarentee that there would be no destruction.
MarylandJuly89 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
that is true humans don't want to accept their own morality

I'm an atheist myself. I was just adding a quick note. That's it dude.
