I like the innovators, Bird, Ornette, Trane, Roscoe Mitchell, Albert Ayler, Braxton. Those cats moved me in 1970, and move me now. The first Bird LP I bought was a 3 LP set of live Bird (Birdland/Royal Roost) on "charlie parker rcords) that I bought for 77 cents! It sat on the shelf for like 10 years, and kept getting marked down, to the discount bin! You would probably like James Emery on guitar, he has a large body of work now.

Don't worry, nakim55, nobody is under any more delusion that you might like Ted Nugent. My problem is that I love guitar and I love improvised music, but I find a lot of jazz guitar a bit...boring. Tal Farlow, for example: I can tell he's a fantastically gifted player, but I prefer listening to Parker or Coltrane or even Ornette. Bailey used to say that he didn't much like jazz after Parker because he thought it had become a sort of classical music. I think I see his point.

I really like this video, really beautiful playing. I've played drums for 40 years, but if I played guitar, I would go towards this. Really touched my heart.

For the record, I do not dig Ted Nugent, period! In my humble opinion, I will listen to Hendrix, Johnny Winter, or Santana for my rock & roll. After listening to jazz (improvised music)for 30 + years, those are the only rock cats ( and Winter is probably more blues, well all 3 of them) that still move me. But, that is just my subjective feeling.

Hey who knows? Rationalist! :) ... But thanks for the information ;)!

nakim55, there's nothing wrong with Ted Nugent except for his delusion that he has something worthwhile to say about politics. He's a pretty good guitar player, you know. Not that Bailey couldn't have blown him off the stage.
In the meantime, anyone who thinks this isn't music, I refer you to the work of composer Anton Webern (1883-1945), one of the big guys of the 20th century and a major influence on Bailey. |
